How to focus your mind

In this English language course that focuses on specific content, you will learn the importance of your day-to-day lifestyle choices. You will discover how your mental and physical wellbeing are connected and the impact this has on your success – now and in the future. With the goals you set, we work together to achieve your goals. You will be encouraged to review, summarize key points and briefly journal how the content applies to you, then formulate an action plan for gradual habit modification.

Ways to improve your english

You will experience live weekly online classes conducted in English using Zoom. Zoom features language translation to support various students’ English proficiency levels. With recorded lessons you can review the lesson content freely. Multimedia is used for your engagement with the content, and the style of teaching aims for an enjoyable learning experience. You will also have opportunities for discussion, critical thinking and reflection throughout the course.

Lifestyle, culture and Sports Action

During our monthly ‘Meet-up’ event days, you will meet your classmates face-to face while participating in a variety of sports, musical, artistic and life-related activities. Participation is optional but highly recommended. The event costs are included in the tuition fee, excepting transport to and from the venue. Class and event related information will be available on the calendar in your student portal.

Course Curriculum – a new topic each month

    • Sleep: Circadian rhythm, brain activity, tips for restorative sleep, negative impacts of insufficient sleep and positive impacts of quality sleep, learning, memory consolidation
    • Mind-Body Connection:  Overview, breath work, mindfulness, art and music, Yoga, Tai chi, meditation, visualization, gratitude lists, socialization, indoor and outdoor sports 
    • Food and Nutrition: Fast food, highly processed foods, individual dietary needs, neurotransmitters and brain chemicals, meal planning, cooking, 80-20 rule
    • Time management: Study skills techniques and strategies, goal setting, to-do lists, autonomous learning, mind maps, student life balance
    • Exercise: Benefits for the brain and body, duration, frequency, intensity, exercise type combinations, dopamine, healthspan, oxygenation and blood flow
    • Prolonged close-up work and screen time: Eye strain, myopia, approaches to support eyesight health, exercises, nutrition, 20-20-20 rule
      • Stress: Effects of chronic stress, impact on immune system, gut health, perception mindset, self-awareness, coping behaviours
      • Hydration & Water Quality: Individual needs, thermoregulation, effects of dehydration and excess, sugar-sweetened beverages, exercise, humidity, heat, caffeine
      • Sedentary lifestyles: Energy expenditure, harmfulness of prolonged sitting, blood circulation, posture, musculoskeletal system, integrating intermittent movement, standing and adjustable desks
      • Learning, Attention and Memory: How we learn, retention, chunking, critical thinking, knowledge, intelligence, emotion, neurotransmitters, dopamine, positive psychology, motivation, reflection, spaced repetition
      • Student survey-based topics: Connect the dots across the entire curriculum to understand the bigger picture, English learning advice, using English vs studying English, national and international current events, global issues

      You can join at any time and begin your lessons at the start of the month.

      Your lessons are on Zoom which features language translation to support various students’ English proficiency levels. The lessons are recorded so you can review them freely.

      The teacher will speak in English, but you will be able to review a Japanese translation.

      If you can’t travel to Kyoto, sensei Steve will recommend activities in your local area that you can join. 

      A recording of the lesson will be available for viewing for one month after the lesson.

      Yes! There is a Zoom session each week for students to connect and discuss the course content.
